DEF Quick Facts - SCR vs EGR

Q:  What is the difference between SCR and EGR?

A: SCR uses an after treatment system to reduce NOx emissions outside of the engine by dosing the exhaust stream with a small amount of Diesel Exhaust Fluid.

EGR is a technique to reduce NOx emissions by recirculating a portion of an engine’s exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders.
